Capital market development and growth in Sub-Saharan Africa: the case of Tanzania
Ziorklui, S.Q. / 2001

Abstract:

The objective of this study is to examine the various problems that constrain the development of functioning capital markets in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries in general and Tanzania in particular. The study also examins the impact of the government's recent policy changes on capital market development and the operations of non-banking financial institutions that intermediate in the capital markets. The study analyses the linkage between capital market development and the real sector growth in Tanzania. The issues of regional integration and globalisation of the capital market are also examined with policy implications. The study also addresses the impact of policy changes on equity and poverty alleviation in Tanzania.
